The compact fluorescent lamp by Margaux...

Compacts fluorencent lamps were created in the 80's. A compact fluorecent lamp (or CFL) consums, on overage, 3 or 4 times less electricity than the production of a standard light. For exemple, a compact fluorecent lamp can consums 15 watts while a standard light consum 60 whatts. The lamp tube is miniaturised, or fold in 2, 3 or 4. Of course they're some avantages and disavantages, for exemple they use less electricity, they last longer, but they take 1 or 2 minutes for have a good light and the light isfainter than the standards lamps

GOING GREEN!

The wind turbine by Guillaume...

THE WIND TURBINE

The world’s first automatically operated wind turbine was built in Cleveland in 1888 by Charles F. Brush.

A wind turbine is a rotating machine which converts the kinetic energy of wind into mechanical energy.

If the mechanical energy is used directly by machinery, such as a pump or grinding stones, the machine is usually called a windmill. If the mechanical energy is instead converted to electricity, the machine is called a wind generator, wind turbine, wind power unit (WPU), wind energy converter (WEC) or aero generator.

A wind turbine needs a minimum wind speed of the order 10-15 km/h to start turning and in winds over 90 km/h it stops.

The electrical energy is generated directly from the rotation of the blades.

It does not produce pollution!

Bedzed by Aurélie...

Going green : Bedzed

Bedzed means Beddington Zero Energy Development.

Bedzed is in London, in Hackbridge. It is designed by the architect Bill Dunster. There are 99 homes built in 2000-2002. This district is designed to use only energy from renewable sources. There are 777 square meter of solar panels. Most rain water falling on the site is collected and reused. A « Living Machine » system of recycling waste water was installed.

Ecological houses by Amandine...

Ecological houses :

The ecological constructions are made with techniques and  equipements that respect the planet and built with natural materials such as the wood or the straw.

The electricity is produced by the light energy captured by photovoltaic pannels   and the water is heated by the sun light captured by  solar thermal pannels.

The houses can be heated by fireplaces who used recycled wood or by the geothermal heating who capted the energy with sensor burried in the floor.

A lot of French people invest in renewable energy for their homes because ecological houses are very good for the environement and they are not very expensive because we don’t have to pay water and electricity bills.

The Earthship by Loris...

The Earthship is an ecological house. Why ? Because it's recycled and independant in energy. Indeed, the builders go to the waste reception center to recover old tyres, old glass bottles, old cans... to build the walls. Moreover, you don't need to pay water and electricity bills : the Earthship catch water from the sky, stored it in cisterns and catch electrity from the sun thanks to solar panels. Different plants, interior or exterior, are used to clean the water several times. Besides, these plants produce fresh food : fruits and vegetables like eggplant, carrots, oranges or tomatoes. As the home is very well insulated, you don't need to heat it, even in winter ! An earthship is also quite cheap, it's fireproof and resistant to cyclones and earthquakes. The concept of Earthship was invented by the architect Mike Reynolds in the seventies. To finish, an Earthship use all available natural resources and can reduce our ecological foot-print, it' s a modern and effective way to Going Green

Solar Panels by Lucie...

  Solar panels

Solar panels are devices to get energy of sunbeams to change it in electricity or heat. There are two sorts of sonar panels: solar panels who change sun energy in electricity and solar panels who change sun energy in heat.

Nowadays there are solar panels generate electricity and heat at the same time.

They even invented toys with solar panels! They are educational toys for the children, working exclusively in the solar energy. They work as well in the light of the day as in the artificial light. So don't wait to participate in the protection of the planet, she needs you!

The wind turbine by Valerie...

The Wind turbine

A wind turbine is a rotating machine that uses the kinetic energy of wind. This energy is converted to mechanical energy and then to electricity.

A wind turbine is “Going Green” because:

·         It doesn’t need any fuel.

·         It’s recyclable in a major part.

·         It’s doesn’t make any greenhouse gases.

·

There are financial advantages too. One of the disadvantages is: the noise is hated.

Even if there are disadvantages, the electricity produced by a wind turbine is an endless energy.
